HD Radio
Welcome to HD Radio

It’s the most significant advancement in radio broadcasting since the introduction of FM stereo more than 50 years ago. HD Radio technology enables AM and FM radio stations to broadcast their programs digitally– a tremendous technological leap from the analog broadcasts of the past.

There are currently over 1,100 HD Radio stations on the air and more than 600 HD2 multicast channels in 85 markets, including South Florida, with more going on-the-air every week. So no matter where you go, you’re likely to find the quality local programming that you want.

WLRN Xtra HD Radio

WLRN Xtra HD is South Florida’s Alternative News and Talk Station. This service, available both on HD-capable radio receivers at 91.3-2 and streamed live online here at wlrn.org, provides 24 hours a day of stimulating and engaging news and talk programming, as well as some sophisticated entertainment programs.

While some of the most popular programs on 91.3 WLRN are available, time-shifted, on WLRN Xtra HD, there are many other shows on the schedule, including the brand new morning news show from PRI and WNYC called The Takeaway, weekdays at 10:00am There are award-winning talk shows from Public Radio International, such as “Here and Now” and “To the Point”, that explore issues of the day. And for fans of the “Day to Day” program, it’s on each weekday at noon on Xtra HD. Many of our listeners have asked for more BBC World Service on the radio. You have your wish: the BBC can now be heard weekdays from 12:00 midnight until 10:00am and weekends from 9:00pm until 10:00am. And, speaking of the weekends, on WLRN Xtra HD, you’ll find a wide range of entertainment and cultural programming as well as news and information.
